It is a substance that, together with L-arginine and L-ornithine, participates in the urea cycle, also known as Krebs cycle. Citrulline is considered to be an endogenous amino acid that can be formed in the human body as a result of natural synthesis. The name of the compound comes from the Latin word "citrullus" and means watermelon, which is due to the fact that the first food product from which the amino acid was isolated was watermelon, which is the main source of the compound in the human diet. In addition, citrulline can also be found in melons, pumpkins and cucumbers.
